Terrorists Are Cowards And How to Win in Iraq
Plain and simple, terrorists are cowards! They are not worthy of the name insurgents or rebels. They are murderers, thieves and rapists. Sick and demented criminals are the terms most appropriate. They are not religious extremists for their actions have no bearing or basis in any religious belief. They are not insurgents for they champion no cause worthy of human endeavor.
Regardless of where terrorists commit their atrocities, there can be no just cause for their actions. Terrorists are criminals and sadists who hide behind the shroud of religious belief to cover their crimes. I am no supporter of organized religions and view them as one of the most divisive forces invented by humanity. However, no one in their right mind could say that these people represent any religious belief, in spite of their claims to the contrary.
There is no question that throughout history there have been legitimate rebellions and insurgencies. When a government willfully violates the wishes of its citizens and ignores there desire for change, rebellion is justified. When a government brutalizes its citizens, oppresses free expression or ignores the desires of the governed; rebellion is warranted. But rebellion should be directed at the causes of the problem and the oppressors. While there is no such thing as the ‘perfect rebellion,’ those who purposely set out to kill woman and children and innocent civilians cannot lay claim to a cause of righteousness. They cannot hide behind the name of God, whatever name is chosen, to commit their own self-serving atrocities. Will there be civilian deaths in any ‘legitimate’ struggle for freedom? Of course there will. But should civilians and one’s own countrymen be the target? No!
So called insurgents in Iraq are nothing more than blood-thirsty hoodlums. There is no oppression. Have the U.S. and its allies made mistakes? Absolutely! We started with a noble cause but failed to address key issues that concerned those we sought to liberate. Nonetheless, the wanton slaughter of men, woman and children for no purpose other to instill fear is a crime against humanity. Just as the Sudanese government should be condemned and removed for similar crimes, the world should condemn these criminals and sadists and name them for what they truly are. And as far as not understanding the way people in the Middle East think and not being sensitive to their culture, well, political correctness can be damned. Using this as an excuse to veil these deplorable acts may be acceptable to the politicians, but they are not acceptable to anyone with a conscious. No true Muslim, Christian or followers of any religion could condone these acts. There is the rub. Both these and other religious sects have histories drenched in blood so perhaps they have become too accustomed to the color red.
Want to end this madness? Tell all of our brave U.S. soldiers to remove their uniforms and put their guns away. Let our army be one of hope and reconstruction. If there are carpenters, give them hammers to build. Let the engineers build roads, schools, hospitals and working sanitary systems. Let the teachers teach and the doctors and nurses heal. Let the bureaucrats and former office workers build a new civil service. Let the mechanics fix, the fast food workers help open restaurants. Give our soldiers civilian clothes and use their backgrounds to build, not destroy. What of the ‘insurgents?’ Maybe the world will finally wake up when they try to kill those that are there to rebuild and help. Want to try a new policy, Mr. President, try this one since what we are doing now just is not working.
